3D Metal Printing
Process Overview
SLM uses a high-powered laser to selectively melt and fuse metallic powders layer by layer.
The process starts with a thin layer of metal powder spread across a build platform.
The laser scans the powder, melting it at precise locations based on a 3D model.
Each layer solidifies, and subsequent layers are added until the final part is complete.
Advantages of SLM
Strength: SLM results in fully melted structures, leading to enhanced strength compared to other methods like Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).
Reduced Porosity: The complete melting process minimizes porosity, ensuring better material properties.
Complex Geometries: SLM allows intricate designs and complex shapes that would be challenging using traditional manufacturing methods.
Material Variety: It works with various metal alloys, including stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and more.
Advantages of SLM
Aerospace: Lightweight, high-strength components for aircraft and spacecraft.
Medical: Custom implants, surgical tools, and dental prosthetics.
Automotive: Prototypes, engine parts, and lightweight structures.
Tooling: Durable molds and dies.
